Memory Care That Feels Like Home

When memory loss becomes a reality, one question rises above all others: How do you keep your loved one safe while also preserving who they are and keeping them engaged with life?

At TheKey, you don't have to choose.

Our memory care services are designed around our proprietary Balanced Care Method®, a whole-person approach that prioritizes safety, brain health, and overall well-being. Built on six research-based pillars, each personalized Alzheimer’s care plan helps your loved one find connection and moments of joy, even as abilities change.

What Daily Life Looks Like With Our Memory Care

Flex Your Mind

Brain-boosting activities matched to your loved one’s current abilities, from gentle reminiscence to engaging puzzles, help maintain mental function and spark moments of joy and recognition.

Nourish & Hydrate

Good nutrition and hydration support brain health. We help with meal preparation, encourage regular eating patterns, and make mealtimes a pleasant, social experience.

Move More

Physical activity adapted to mobility levels helps maintain function, reduces restlessness, and improves sleep quality. Even a short daily walk can make a difference.

Connect with Others

Regular social engagement through conversation, music, or shared activities reduces isolation and supports emotional well-being.

Engage with Joy & Purpose

We build care around interests and life history, creating meaningful moments that honor the person they've always been.

Sleep Well

Consistent routines and calming evening practices help improve sleep patterns, which boosts both cognitive function and daytime mood.

What Our Memory Care Makes Possible

With our whole-person approach to care, the results are tangible for both your loved one and your family.

Your Loved One Feels Calmer & More Secure

Familiar routines and consistency reduce anxiety and confusion. When days follow a predictable rhythm, your loved one knows what to expect and feels safer in their surroundings.

They Stay Connected to Who They Are

We make activities meaningful. Looking through photo albums from their career, listening to music from their era, or working in the garden they've always loved keeps them engaged with their identity and interests.

Daily Life Feels Manageable, Not Overwhelming

Our caregivers provide support with personal care, mobility, and gentle redirection when needed, but always in a way that preserves dignity and independence. Your loved one gets help without feeling helpless.

Loneliness & Distress Decrease

Compassionate, consistent presence makes all the difference. Having someone patient and caring who genuinely knows them reduces isolation, frustration, and the emotional toll of memory loss.

You Can Be Family Again

Caring for someone with memory changes is challenging. With our caregiver support, you can return to being a daughter, son, or spouse instead of a full-time care manager. You get to have real conversations, enjoy time together, and take care of yourself without guilt.

"The Key has provided wonderful, caring....care for my mother on and off for the last 3 years. My mother suffers from dementia and has required help with daily living activities. The caregivers have been not only wonderful, but consistent for many years. This gives my mother a sense of continuity, and it provides significant peace of mind for our family."

Hear From Our Clients and Their Families

"TheKey has the best caregivers and we were very impressed by their thorough, person-centered dementia care training. It's unlike anything we've seen!"

Gretchen M.

San Diego, CA

"Our family has had a fantastic experience with TheKey. My wife and I have had two consistent caregivers over the past year who have become like a part of the family. They are attentive and engaging, they help coach me through my physical therapy exercises, help us grocery shop and engage my wife with Alzheimer’s in conversations about her passions. They are happy to help with anything we need and they seem to genuinely care about us and our family. When they are out for planned vacations or unplanned sicknesses, the fill-in staff are always just as helpful and friendly. Our family loves the brief informational sheets we are provided about each new caregiver that includes a picture, their background and some fun facts so that we can have an idea of what to expect. The case managers communicate quickly and efficiently to manage staffing changes and do frequent home visits to check in and make sure that everyone is safe and happy. We are so appreciative of the outstanding care we are receiving from TheKey."

"Our family has used Millennia since 2016 and we most highly recommend them. Finding the right caregivers for a parent is difficult, even more so if it’s for someone declining from dementia. The added challenge has been to find capable caregivers who could speak Japanese, as our mother reverted to her language of origin. Millennia has continually risen to the task for us, always finding exceptional caregivers who match well with our mother’s changing needs and who take wonderful care of her, better than we could ourselves. They have an excellent, experienced administrative staff - professional, responsive and knowledgeable while also very kind and supportive. We’re thankful that their great caregivers made it possible for our mother to continue living at home. Over the years we’ve had to use other agencies as well but for us Millennia has been the gold standard in caregiving service."

"These folks are fantastic! They really listen to the client's needs, and their caregivers are great. Plus, they follow up and keep the family in the loop. MT mother has alzheimer's and is very difficult, and the are really helping her."

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many families come to us before a formal diagnosis, when they’re simply noticing changes. We can help you understand what you're seeing and begin home care for dementia early, before safety concerns or stress become larger problems.

We use our TheKeyMatch™ framework to look at personality, communication style, interests, routines, and care needs. Once care begins, our care team will check in regularly to ensure it’s the right fit and make adjustments as needed. This is done via phone or in-person and can include both client and family, if desired. Our goal is to find a caregiver match that will build into a strong enduring partnership.

This is very common. Our caregivers are trained to ease our clients into the transition using patience and gentle redirection to build trust gradually. We start at a comfort level that feels safe and familiar, so care becomes a welcome part of daily life.

If you're having difficulty starting the home care conversation with your loved one, we have approaches that have worked for other families.

Care begins with support for daily routines and companionship. Over time, it may include more structure, safety oversight, personal care, mobility assistance, and caregiver relief for family members. We adjust the care plan as needs evolve, even if this means moving to a new location, we are able to support transition and provide continuity of care across these stages.

No. Home health is physician ordered medical care delivered under a formal plan of treatment. Hospice is end-of-life comfort care. Memory care through TheKey provides ongoing daily support, engagement, and safety for someone living with dementia, for as long as it’s needed.

We’ll help you decide based on your loved one’s abilities, risks, and level of family support. There's no "one-size-fits-all"—the right amount of care is what keeps your loved one safe while giving your family the relief you need.
